Yogya Kembali Monument

Yogya Kembali Monument at Yogyakarta brings out the essence of Indonesian freedom struggle, making it into a concrete history. The name Yogya Kembali means Yogya Returns that is the return of the Indonesian Republic Government.

Yogya Kembali Monument is located three kilometers north of Jogja city center in Jongkang village, situated in the Sariharjo Sub-District and Ngaglik District of Sleman Regency.

The monument is open from 8am to 4pm, Tuesday to Sunday. But remains closed on Mondays.
You can enter the monument by paying a basic entrance fee of IDR 5,000 for resident adults and 7,500 for Foreign Tourist. This might vary depending upon the age and the number of people in a group.
Features of Yogya Kembali Monument, Yogyakarta:
- The monument was built on 29 June 1985, to commemorate the historic Indonesian struggle for independence. 
- The location of the Yogya Kembali Monument is said to be based on an imaginary axis called the "Macrocosmic Axis or the Great Axis of Life", connecting Sultan Palace, Tugu, Panggung Krapyak, Merapi and Parang Tritis.
- The Yogya Kembali Monument, Yogyakarta, holds a replica of Cureng Aircraft near the eastern gate, while a replica of Guntai Aircraft stands closer to the western entrance of the monument.
- The Monument has two wheeled-machine guns complete with the seats, visible from a podium towards the eastern and the western side.
- Towards the southern end of the yard, is a wall engraved with 420 names of freedom fighters, who lost their lives during the great struggle (from 19 December 1948 to 29 June 1949)
- The wall also holds a poem by Chairil Anwar, titled Karawang Bekasi, dedicated to these unknown patriots.
- The Yogya Kembali Monument, Yogyakarta, surrounded by fish ponds is divided into four alleys which lead to the main building.
- The main building consists of different floors displaying a wide range of collections from the war times and after it. It showcases dioramas, carved reliefs or collection of clothes and weapons.
